The Social Protection Secretariat received a human resource capacity boost when ten (10) Gender & Social Development officers joined the institution in the first week of February, 2016.
The Gender & Social Development officers who joined the Social Protection Secretariat in February, 2016 during one of the training sessions organized and conducted in the Secretariat’s board room, in Nairobi, to familiarize them with relevant work areas.
The ten officers who are part of a larger group (210 new officers) stationed in other departments and field offices of the ML&EAA, bring onboard diverse expertise and specialization cutting across programme management, Information technology and Communication among others.
The officers are employed under the National Safety Net Programme to provide support and contribute to efforts towards attainment of the programme’s objectives at the County and Sub-County level. Specifically, these officers will work in areas such as targeting and registration of beneficiaries, mobilization of beneficiaries for payment, capacity building of Constituency Social Assistance Committees, liaising with payment service providers to effect changes on beneficiary payroll, compiling reports on the Programme, receiving and reporting on complaints and grievances by beneficiaries.
At hand to receive the new officers was the National Coordinator, Social Protection Secretariat Winnie Mwasiaji who, alongside other programme officers provided the group with insights on key components of the four Cash Transfer programmes under the NSNP including Older Persons Cash Transfer Programme, Persons with Severe Disabilities programme, Orphans and Vulnerable Children and the Hunger Safety Net Programme. The officers were also taken through an overview of Social Development and Children Departments, the payment system and the Single Registry.
